#128. African Head Charge – ‘Dervish Chant’ (1990)

I guess I’m on a bit of an Adrian Sherwood kick right now….from his collaborations¬†with Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry and his work with Tackhead in the ’80s to his immense production output in the ’90s, and the eclectic expanse of genre-expanding dub artists that have made up his label, On-U Sound Records’ roster since its formation back in 1979, he’s been everywhere in what I’ve been listening to in the past few weeks. But I’ve only just started joining the dots….

African Head Charge have been around for decades and must be one of the first groups to take dub beyond its reggae-remix records – supposedly inspired but something or other that Brian Eno said to Sherwood about a ‘psychedelic Africa’.
