#95. Charanjit Singh – ‘Raga Bhairav’ (1982)

Where has this been all my life?

This is some kinda acid house music from before there was acid house, basically.

Singh’s record, quite an experimental feat when you consider the year and the new gear he was using, failed in 1982 when it came out. But, like a lot of good things, somebody rediscovered it a couple of decades later and the rest is history. It’s basically what it says on the tin, ten ragas set to disco beats – using a Roland TB-303 and a Roland TR-808 (as well as a Roland Jupiter-8 synthesizer), which of course both became acid house mainstays only a few short years later.
