#82. Hawkwind – ‘Opa-Loka’ (1975)

Hawkwind. One of those names you hear a lot but maybe not one of those bands you’re actually all that familiar with. Lemmy was an early member and sang lead on the hit single ‘Silver Machine’, and was still in the band when this instrumental and its corresponding album Warrior on the Edge of Time was recorded, although it’s not him on the bass here, it’s guitarist Dave Brock.

The clearly Krautrock-influenced ‘Opa-Loka’ seems a bit out of place on the album it comes from, though; the rest of the record is spacey prog rock much like the bulk of the band’s work at the time.
