#77. Lyres – ‘Help You Ann’ (1984)

Who would call their child Ann? Help them.

I’ve been wanting/meaning to put something from Children of Nuggets: Original Artyfacts from the Second Psychedelic Era up on here for a while, so here we go – something from the Boston-area band Lyres, which sounds like it’s right out of 1965, and obviously owes a lot to the Kinks. Oh, and in true ’60-revivalist fashion, the album this cut comes from is called On Fyre. I really, really dig the album’s cover, which is hopefully pictured above in the video. Ye olde badlands shot after John Ford but before Spindrift.

In a past life I played comedy drums in a bad kinda-retro garage band so listening to something like this always pulls on the old nostalgia strings a bit.
