#76. Drop – ‘Mirrored’ (1991)

Maybe double.

I hadn’t heard of Drop until late last year when that massive Still In A Dream: A Story of Shoegaze 1988 to 1995 compilation dropped. To be fair, I hadn’t heard of probably half of the featured bands on that 87-track behemoth, perhaps more.

Further up post-punk alley than most circa-1991 examples of this loosely-defined genre but nonetheless a lush track, I feel like if you stripped away all the phasing and what have you, you’d find something with more in common with a bit of Flock of Seagulls or Tear or Fears-esque pop than with Ride or Slowdive. And that isn’t a bad thing.
